I Mum Mum Restaurant @ Pengkalan Weld, Penang.

When it comes to Pan Mee, the first thing on my mind is Face to Face Noodle House which is a noodle specialty restaurant and i patronize it at least once a week.
Hidden among the flats, i got to know I Mum Mum Pan Mee Restaurant only via reviews but what's worst is to locate the restaurant.
As you drive through Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong heading to Penang bridge from Weld Quay, keep to your left and you will approach a row of shoplots after passing through the turning to Gat Lebuh Macallum.
Now, slow down and keep your eyes on the coming frontage road which leads to the shoplots parking area.
There is a green-coloured Maxis centre and congratulations, just follow the I Mum Mum signs.

Browsing through the old self-printed laminated two-pages menu, they only offered 6 varieties of Pan Mee with 3 choices of noodles: thin, thick or pinched, price ranging from RM3 to RM5.20.
Besides that, add-ons such as dumplings, meat balls, fish cakes, dried anchovies and fish cakes are available.
The place is not air-conditioned but you could cool yourself down with their home made refreshing herbal tea (RM1.30 each).

It took some time for them to prepare my noodles.
The Fried Dumpling (RM0.80 each) should have been better with such price tag.
A layer of golden brown light crisp enveloping some minced meat.
The outer layer should be thinner and the filling given should be more generous, more moist.

Obviously, the Dumpling Soup (RM0.80 each) was way better than the fried version.
The steamed dough was firm and the filling was perfectly compact, moist.

Next, it was the Dry Pan Mee (RM3 small / RM3.50 big) which was served along with a small bowl of anchovy soup.
The ingredients given were more and less like ordinary Pan Mee: dried anchovies, minced meat and wood ear fungus.
However, the noodle was mixed with some dark soy sauce and sesame oil.
It was very disappointing and i have to say that it is no where near the standard of Face to Face Noodle House's one.

I highly recommend the Crispy Pork Pan Mee (RM3.70 small / RM4.20 big).
The noodle was stirred in a sweet gravy, accompanied by some wood ear fungus and mouth-watering sliced crispy pork chop, topped with some chopped spring onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Honest speaking, the gravy did not go well with the noodle but what amazed me is the pork chop.
Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside with a mild sweet and sour taste, fantastic!

My visit ended up in disappointment as i had high expectations on the restaurant after going through a few reviews but they were written two years ago.
Still, my vote goes to Face to Face Noodle House despite higher price.

Lunch at Batu Lanchang Market @ Batu Lanchang, Penang.

Penang is labeled as the land of food and it is true that there is an abundance of dining venues there.
I am like suffering from Decidophobia.
I could not choose where and what to have for my meals, as there are delish fine foods everywhere.
Anyway, my selection for the day was the Batu Lanchang Food Court, which is positioned directly opposite to the newly constructed Central Park Condominium.
There is an estimated of at least 50 stalls in the court.
Most of Penang local delicacies can be found there but the tastiness is not guaranteed.

The stall number 8's claim to fame is that they serve very peculiar Chinese Pasembur with jellyfish.
In addition, the sweet potato gravy was full of sweet, sour and hot elements.
The zesty flavours just exploded in my mouth.
Furthermore, the shredded cucumber, turnip, bean curd and fritters were fairly fresh.
However, i found that the Pasembur was not cold enough to be served.
The RM3.70 price tag was quite appropriate, especially counting in the generous amount of jellyfish given.
It certainly is a great savory appetizer.

To counter addiction to Char Kway Teow, you have got me on a mission.
The problem was that there are at least 3 stalls selling this ambrosia.
Luckily, the stall number, 28 still remains vividly in my mind after have gone through some reviews a few days ago.
I have ordered one with duck egg which cost me 3.60 bucks.
An intense spicy and a little bit burnt aroma was immediately sensed.
The rice noodle was partially blanketed with Lilliputian pieces of egg.
The fresh prawns and luscious clams enhanced the taste.
Seriously, it may be eligible to compete for the Best Penang Char Kway Teow spot.

Besides, I have tried out the Lam Mee (RM2.70) there which was not flavoursome.
It tasted so-so and that is why i don't even bother to jot down the stall number.

Lastly, this Sugar Cane Juice was recommended by my other half.
It is sold at a stall which is in the same row with the Pasembur.
The juice was nectarous and was absolutely unsweetened.
There was completely no dilution of the juice, neglecting the ice cubes.
It has a price tag of only 1.20 bucks which makes it an ideal drink to cool yourself down on a hot sunny day.

Curry Mee at Weng Lok Cheong Cafe @ Perak Road, Penang.

Well, my other half and i had my so-called brunch quite early today.
That was why we were feeling hungry after our lectures.
On the way back home, we dropped by Weng Lok Cheong Cafe to have the once-tasty Curry Mee.
Few months since my last visit, i was here once more.
Nowadays, hawker food prices have been raised by at least 20 cents.
The Curry Mee there was no exception.
Oopsie daisy, i forgot to show you the way there.
If you are coming from the Perak Road Fire Station, keep traveling straight.
Once you have seen Old Town Cafe on your right, you may start to drive slowly.
Do notice there is a Hope Children's Hospital on your left and the coffee shop is located at the opposite of the hospital.
I can't help in providing the address of the coffee shop and i hope that the address of the hospital might helps.
383-A & 383-B, Taman Meranti Jalan Perak 11600 Jelutong, Penang.

We have ordered two bowls of medium-sized Mee and in fact, two bowls of large one were served.
Each bowl was priced at 3 bucks.
I can see quite a lot of squid and clams there.
Astonishingly, i could not locate any prawn inside my bowl of Mee.
3-dollars Curry Mee without prawn? You got to be kidding me, marks were deducted!
I am not a fan overly thick chili oil, i dislike it.
The Curry Mee tasted so-so but it was quite oily.
Honestly, the quantity was big and if it wasn't that oily, i would rate it 4 stars in term of taste.
I don't know why, recently, almost everything that i have tried aren't comparable to how they once tasted, sigh.

Chicken & Duck Rice at Happy Cafe @ Sungai Dua, Penang

Well, i can't think of where and what to have for lunch, i don't know which coffee shop is nice and which is not.
As my college is located in a region which is fulled of offices, i would always compete with white-collar workers for parking places.
I have acquired a few recommendations from Jacgy, and one of them was the duck rice in Bukit Jambul.
My other half and i have travelled there and i can't find a legal parking lot.
So, we have changed our minds and went to Sungai Dua.
The only more crowded coffee shop was the Happy Cafe which is situated in Taman Pekaka.
On the way from Tesco Extra to Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, take the right turn once you have seen Nasi Kandar Subaidah.
Keep going forward and take the first turning on the left , you should be able to spot the coffee shop now.

Surprisingly, there are two respective stalls in which we have thought that they are one.
But, they are not.
One of them is selling Chicken Rice and the other one is selling Duck Rice.
Both of them do sell carbonado pork (烧肉).
We have decided to try both of them.
Few minutes right just after i placed my order, here came my Chicken Rice.
Looking good there huh?
The gravy was sweet and it tasted completely different from the Duck Rice.
Overall, the Chicken Rice which cost me 3 bucks had nothing special except the small bowl of soup.
I wonder what soup was that as it was very mouthwatering and i have never had soup like this before.
The soup was spicy and peppery and its appearance was like 咸菜汤.

This was what i like.
The gravy of the Duck Rice was special as it was thick, dark and would give out some sort of scorching aroma.
The rice cost us 6 bucks as thigh meat was given and carbonado was added.
I personally think that the price was fair.
A small bowl of Kiam Chai Buey (咸菜尾) which was fine was served along.
The dark Duck Meat was of course, greasy and was definitely yummy.
So did the carbonado.
I highly rate the carbonado!

In conclusion, i was damn thirsty after consuming both bowls of soup.
Therefore, i did not know which of them was the factor, damn!

Hainanese Fried Bee Hoon & Fried Rice @ Esplande, Penang.

Today, i went to the Esplanade Food Court to have my lunch,
During my last week's visit, i have tried out the western food and Mee Sotong there, click here.
Therefore, my choices today were the Hainanese Fried Bee Hoon and Fried Rice which are both sold by the western food stall.

The Hainannese food there was damn famous among office lads and ladies as they are tasty and in fact very cheap.
Speaking of my Fried Bee Hoon, i was pretty amazed by its super big portion, which only cost me 4 bucks.
It appeared like extra Bee Hoon and chicken were added.
Luckily, my other half have ordered the Fried Rice, in the other words, the two food were shared among us.
Honestly, i wonder that if a person could finish such large serving by himself or not.
The Bee Hoon were nicely fried and it was not sticky at all.
The gravy was a little bit salty, stir the sambal in and i guarantee you will adore the taste.
I guess there was at least 7 pieces of cuts of chicken meat.

Next, it was my other half's Fried Rice which was also served in a superior large portion.
Just refer to my picture, there was a mountain of rice with at least 7 pieces of chicken meats.
The price was the same with the Bee Hoon.
I personally felt that the Fried Rice was a little bit cold, but that did not affect the taste much.
The rice tasted salty and fulled of garlic aroma, which enhances the deliciousness of this dish.
Two thumbs up!
You better don't order this if you don't have a big appetite.
The portion was simply XXL.

This dish was my all-time favourite thingy as i am always addicted to French Fries.
The fries there looked larger and bigger than those who are sold by other western food hawkers, and they are identical to Nando's ones.
The generous amount of fries and Tartar sauce given only cost us a total of 4 bucks.
Yummy!

Just a friendly reminder, the food court will be fulled of white collars during lunch time everyday, especially Fridays!

Kim Leng Loh Mee @ Perak Road, Penang.

Penang is legendary for its local cheap and mouthwatering hawker food.
Loh Mee is one of the local must-try delicacies.
Loh Mee is a Chinese-inspired noodle and Bee Hoon dish served in a thick, black and grooey broth.
There may be a lot of Loh Mee sellers, but i can count on the fingers of one hand the number of them who serve truly yummy ones.
So far, the best one that i have ever encountered is at Joo Huat Coffee Shop, Perak Road.
The coffee shop is positioned on your left hand side approximately a half mile after passing through Old Town Cafe if you are coming from Gelugor.
I believe a site map will be a better presenter than i am.

The Loh Mee is very reputed since long time ago and Jason Yeoh, or more commonly known as Ah Xian had been here for his food show.
Anyway, there are three options to choose from, small (2.70 bucks), medium (3.20 bucks) and big (4.50 bucks).
My serving was the medium one and there were no pork slices and chicken feet for my Mee as they are not my cup of tea.
Hence, there was only egg inside my bowl of Mee.
So far so good, they never got my order wrong!

It ended up with disappointment.
Today, the taste was way off their usual standard.
Although the taste was still acceptable, but it was terrible, compared with the old times.
And, i hope that the quality will be improved once more.
The starchy gravy was gooey enough and the thickness of the sticky gravy was just excellent.
The only problem was that the gravy today lacked of flavor.
I sensed a significant difference in the taste as i am considered a regular customer of the Mee.
I will be looking forward to try it out once more.
Just hope that it won't be resulted in another letdown.
By the way, there are not much parking spaces in vicinity and during lunch time, the coffee shop will be surely crowded.
